16,000+ radio stations on a USB storage stick… a portable radio jukebox that you can bring with you anywhere in the world where you can access a internet-enabled computer.
This handy little device contains a internet radio software that can play radio stations from more than 150 countries, and you can even schedule the recording of any of these stations to be listened some time later. It also a USB storage thumbdrive which you can use to store either your own media files or any other files.
When you plug the mini usb stick (around 3cm by 1cm) into your computer’s USB port, two new drives will appear in your Windows Explorer. The first is labelled “Mercury”, which contains the mediaU Mercury player software as shown below.
If this is the first time you use the media player, you would be asked to register for a free account. After you’ve signed up, you will have immediate access to all the internet radio stations.
Most of the stations play at pretty good quality on the computer’s speaker, and even better if you have an external speaker attached.
This is a cool device to have, especially when you are travelling abroad and would like to receive radio channels from your hometown. Unfortunately for Singaporeans, the Singapore channels don’t work because I think MediaCorp had stopped their radio streaming services.
I understand that this cool usb internet radio stick was intended to be launched in one of the upcoming PC fairs in Singapore but not sure when. But you can contact me if you would like to have one for your own.
